GABC Activities & Events

Besides their academic and extracurricular activities at Guilford High School, the scholars enjoy lots of enrichment activities and fun dinners. The Resident Director organizes group activities including escape rooms, boat rides on Long Island Sound, ropes courses, get-togethers with other ABC houses, movie nights, and birthday dinners. Many board members and volunteers also donate their skills and time for activities such as pickleball lessons, flower arranging, indigo dyeing, sewing, pottery, and felting, to name a few.

Guilford ABC also hosts three main events each year — opportunities for scholars, board members, host families, scholars’ families, and members of the local community to come together:

Back to School Fall Picnic – In September, Guilford ABC hosts scholar families, host families, board members, and the GHS principal for our annual picnic at Jacobs Beach. It’s a casual affair that kicks off the school year and gives families a chance to get to know the organization.

Holiday Party – In December, the ABC House hosts a holiday party where families, volunteers, board members, and staff gather for an afternoon of holiday treats and festivities.

End of Year Celebration – In the spring, we gather at the Guilford Community Center to celebrate the year’s accomplishments, especially those of our graduating seniors. This catered event features an alumna speaking about her college experience, remarks from the principal congratulating the seniors, and a chance for graduating seniors to reflect on their four-year journey. It’s a rewarding opportunity to witness the scholars’ growth and the impact of the community’s support.
