ABC EVENTS
Guilford ABC is a vital home to these young ladies who are involved in our community along with their Resident Director. They participate in many activities throughout the year, however there are four major events each year where we have board members, host families and local community members participate:
Back to School Fall Picnic – In mid-September, about two weeks after school starts the young women invite their families, host families along with board members and the GHS principal for our annual picnic at Jacobs Beach! We enjoy a barbeque with hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and all the dressings. Everyone brings a dish to share and it’s a fun time to meet and greet.
Holiday Party – In December, the ABC House hosts a holiday party the last Saturday before winter break where again families, volunteers, board members and staff participate in holiday festivities. An afternoon of holiday treats for everyone!
ABC-Mo Pleasure Benefit Concert – In February or March we host our major fundraiser where Mo Pleasure and friends come to town for a concert at the GHS Performing Arts Center. We have a weekend of activities with a Reception Gala for alumnae, donors, scholars, staff and board members. The concert is held Saturday evening and alumnae brunch on Sunday. A full weekend of events for the scholars and alumnae.
End of Year Celebration – In late May we celebrate the many accomplishments, especially the graduating seniors and the colleges they plan to attend. This is a special event where we host returning graduates to speak about their college experience, the principal congratulates the outgoing class and the graduating seniors are given an opportunity to share their four year journey at the Guilford ABC House. A wonderful celebration for all!
